Linerless label FAQ: compatibility, adhesives, ordering and delivery
Here you will find answers to the questions our professional customers most often ask us about linerless thermal labels, printer compatibility, ordering and delivery. Have a question that is not answered here? Contact us.
Understanding linerless
What is a linerless label?
A linerless label (also called liner-free or backingless) is a thermal label without the protective silicone-coated paper, glassine, which normally serves as backing for conventional labels. The adhesive is applied continuously to the back of the paper, and the printable face has a silicone coating that prevents the roll from sticking to itself. The result: a fully usable roll with no backing waste to dispose of.
What is the difference from a standard thermal roll?
A standard thermal roll (receipt paper) is not adhesive. A conventional label is adhesive but is applied to glassine backing paper that is thrown away. Linerless combines both advantages: it is adhesive and generates no backing waste. At the same diameter, a linerless roll therefore contains significantly more usable meters than a conventional label roll, reducing the frequency of roll changes.
Repositionable, permanent or reinforced: which should you choose?
Repositionable (also called restick or 2GO): the label can be removed and repositioned without leaving any residue. This is the usual choice for labeling reusable containers, gastro trays, delivery boxes, cups and packaging that customers need to be able to open cleanly.
Permanent: permanent adhesion, suitable for cardboard, stretch film and logistics labeling where the label must not be removable.
Reinforced: superior adhesion for difficult, cold, damp or uneven surfaces, especially in frozen-food environments or refrigerated logistics.
If in doubt, order a sample roll and test it on your actual material before approving a full carton.
Does the paper contain bisphenol A?
No. Our linerless thermal labels are bisphenol A-free (BPA-free).
Are linerless labels suitable for food use?
They are designed for professional food-service environments: use-by and best-before date marking, kitchen tickets, catering labelling, order preparation for fast-food restaurants and delivery. The absence of a removable backing also eliminates waste handled in the production area. For direct contact with food, ask us for the applicable compliance documentation for the relevant reference before ordering.
Printer compatibility
How can I tell whether my printer supports linerless?
A standard thermal printer is not sufficient. You need a model specifically designed for linerless, equipped with a pressure roller and an adhesive-resistant cutting system; otherwise, the adhesive will clog the mechanism. Compatible models generally include an explicit indication in their name, such as SK, LF, Restick or Linerless.
What are the three dimensions to check before ordering?
Our formats are always written in the same order: width x outside diameter x core, expressed in millimetres, followed by the length in metres.
- The width must match the width accepted by your printer (commonly 40, 58 or 80 mm).
- The outside diameter must be less than or equal to the maximum diameter of your printer's compartment. This is the most common mistake: a 90 mm roll will not fit in a compartment designed for 80 mm.
- The core, meaning the inner diameter of the tube, must match the roll holder spindle. Common sizes are 12.5, 19, 25 and 40 mm.
Example: a 58 x 80 x 25 mm, 50 m reference is 58 mm wide, forms a roll 80 mm in diameter on a 25 mm core, and contains 50 metres of paper.
Which printer brands are compatible?
We stock formats compatible with the linerless ranges from Star Micronics, Epson, Zebra, Brother, Bixolon, Seiko, TSC, Citizen, Sewoo, Toshiba, Fujitsu, Nippon Primex, Woosim and Wincor Nixdorf, among others. The models most requested by our customers are the Epson TM L100 and TM L90 LF, the Star Micronics TSP143IV SK, TSP654 SK and MC Label3, and the Zebra ZD421D and ZD621D.
Can I use linerless on a scale?
Yes, provided that the scale is equipped with a linerless printing module. We cover formats designed for Bizerba, Mettler Toledo, Digi, Helmac, Ohaus, Exa and Testut scales. These formats are generally shorter and smaller in diameter than catering formats.
I can't find my printer model. What should I do?
Send us the brand and exact model of your printer via our contact page, or use our Find a compatible linerless roll tool. We will tell you the appropriate format or confirm that none is available.
Orders, samples and quotes
Are your prices excluding or including VAT?
Our prices are net. TSi benefits from the VAT exemption under Article 293 B of the French General Tax Code: we do not charge VAT. The displayed price is therefore the final price, with no tax to add, and this applies equally to buyers in France and buyers located in another country. Our invoices contain no VAT line, so there is no VAT to reclaim.
Do you sell to individuals?
No. TSi is a store for professionals. Any order implies that the buyer is acting in the course of their professional activity, in accordance with our general terms and conditions of sale.
Can I order a sample before committing to a carton?
Yes, and it is strongly recommended. We offer individual samples in our main formats, specifically so you can validate mechanical compatibility with your printer and how the adhesive performs on your actual material. Samples are limited to one per order.
How can I get a price for a large volume?
Please use our Custom quote page, specifying the format, adhesive and estimated annual volume. We also consider distribution and resale agreements with foodservice equipment networks and franchises.
Do you manufacture your labels?
We have a dual business activity. TSi brand products are manufactured in France. We also distribute ranges from several specialized manufacturers throughout Europe, including MaxStick Iconex, Techmay Logetiq and Bmle. The brand and origin of each product are indicated on its product page.
Delivery
What are the processing and delivery times?
Orders are processed within 1 to 3 business days after payment is validated. Then allow 3 to 7 business days for standard shipping, or 1 to 3 business days for express shipping. No shipments are made on weekends or public holidays. Delivery times are indicative and may vary depending on the destination and transport conditions.
Do you deliver outside France?
Yes. We mainly ship within metropolitan France and also deliver to several European countries, including Belgium, Spain, and Switzerland. Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on weight and volume. For a destination that does not appear in the calculator, contact us. For shipments outside the European Union, customs duties and local taxes may apply and remain the buyer's responsibility.
Can I track my order?
Yes. A confirmation email containing a tracking number is sent as soon as your order is shipped.
Returns and complaints
Can I return linerless labels?
No, except in the event of an error on our part. Linerless labels are consumables prepared to order according to your specifications for format, core, and compatibility. As the sale is concluded between professionals, the right of withdrawal under the French Consumer Code does not apply. For hygiene and traceability reasons, any packaging that has been opened, unsealed, or damaged cannot be accepted for return.
I received the wrong item or a damaged package. What should I do?
Report it within 48 hours of receipt via our contact page, including photos of the package and products. If an error on our part concerning the reference, quantity, or model is confirmed, we will replace the items or issue a refund. Also remember to note any reservations on the delivery slip upon receipt.
