Linerless or traditional labels: what are the differences?
Share
When equipping themselves, many professionals hesitate between linerless labels and traditional labels with backing. Here are the real differences, point by point.
The silicone backing
Traditional labels are placed on a silicone-coated liner (glassine) that is peeled off before application. Linerless labels do without this: the adhesive is protected by a surface treatment, with no film to discard.
Waste volume
With the backing, each label leaves behind non-recyclable waste. Linerless eliminates this waste, reducing trash volume and simplifying sorting.
Number of labels per roll
Without backing, the roll is denser: at the same diameter, you get more labels. Fewer roll changes, therefore fewer interruptions.
Speed and handling
No more liner to remove: application is faster and simpler, an advantage in the kitchen or at the register during busy periods.
The printer
This is the main point of attention: linerless requires a compatible printer equipped with a mechanism adapted to paper without backing. A standard label printer is not suitable. See our linerless compatible printers.
Overall cost
Linerless reduces waste, accessories, and storage. Over time, the savings are gradual but real, especially with large volumes.
